Shoalhaven River Panorama

A short stop at the start of our 4WD tours at an old gold mining site also gives us a grand view of the Shoalhaven River.

Tallaganda Forests

The Tallaganda Forests.

Our 4WD tours take us to the Tallaganda National Park and State Forests to the west of Braidwood and Bombay. These areas straddle the "main range" and are further inland from the escarpment. The result is generally drier conditions with fewer locations of tree fern gullies.

After driving along an easy 4WD fire trail, we will take a stroll through Lowden Park where a working waterwheel and old boilers add charm and a sense of heritage to this delightful picnic area. (Toilet facilities and two short walks).

Our "easy" trips involve travelling along part of the Mulloon and Bombay Fire Trails rather than by smoother roads. These 4WD trails are an excellent grounding for those drivers wanting to get their first taste of off-road driving and 4WD touring.

Some great panoramic views are to be had when we drive along the Rocky Pic Track on top of the main range before heading back to Braidwood via the Captains Flat road. There is close encounters with logging activities and pine plantations.

The Mulloon FT is also known as the Coles Road built in 1860 and for a while was a shorter and preferred route between Braidwood and Queanbeyan. It was also the route taken by many gold miners en route from the coast near Batemans Bay to the Monaro and Kiandra. Along this route a small creek crossing adds some interest.
