Extended Trips
The "Dry and Wet" Trip
The Simpson Desert and the Great Southern Ocean Trip

This grand circuit trip will tour the vast dry but fascinating heart of Australia. The route out takes in the Warrumbungles, Lightning Ridge, the Burke & Wills Dig Tree, Inamincka en route to Birdsville.

A highlight is the crossing of the Simpson Desert from Birdsville to Dalhousie via the French Line. Three nights camping in the desert will allow ample time for photography and simply to soak up the vastness of our beautiful country.

Emerging from the desert, we head south via Oodnadatta, the painted desert, Coober Pedy, Woomera and then back to civilization - the wineries of the Barossa.

We will then head south to the famous Kangaroo Island for a welcomed taste of the sea air and the unique Aussie wild life and seals. Then we head east taking in the Great Ocean Road, Wilsons Prom and home via the Victorian High Country.

This 22 day trip can be broken into two for those on a tighter schedule.

Dates: August 1-22 2009.

Cost Guideline: $3300 per tagalong (2 persons, $400 extra pp)
$3000 pp as a passenger in lead vehicle (max 2)

More trip details will be sent to interested parties. (Some flexibility in the route remains - trailers strongly advised against for the Simpson crossing $1,000 extra).

Email is preferred contact method as the mobile is often "out of range".

Destinations and Further Information

Beautiful tree ferns are a feature of our trips to the Monga.

A panorama of the Shoalhaven River at Bombay - on our trip to the forests west of Braidwood.

Scenes along the track in the Gourock Range a few days after a mild snow fall in July 2008.

The trip along the range is a delightful full day round trip from Braidwood and is suitable for drivers with little experience in a proper 4WD. It is graded as a Medium standard. It makes an ideal mid-week outing. (Travel along the range at altitudes up to 1300 metres can be quite chilly - so wear / bring suitable clothing and footwear!!)
